چکیده
Abstract. Top-down greenhouse gas measurements can be used to independently assess the accuracy of bottom-up emission estimates. We report atmospheric methane (CH4) mole fractions and δ13CH4 from Imperial College London early 2018 onwards using a Picarro G2201-i analyser. Measurements March October 2020 were compared simulations CH4 produced NAME (Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modelling Environment) dispersion model coupled with UK National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory, NAEI, global inventory, Database for Global Research (EDGAR), spatial resolutions ∼ 2, 10, 25 km. Simulation–measurement comparisons are evaluate emissions source apportionment in (EDGAR) national (NAEI) inventories. Observed underestimated by 30 %–35 % NAEI simulations. In contrast, good correspondence between observations EDGAR was seen. There no correlation measured simulated values either or EDGAR, however, suggesting inventories' sectoral attributions incorrect. On average, natural sources accounted 20 %–28 above background only 6 %–9 nearly 84 isotopic calculated Keeling plot analysis (using measurement data afternoon) individual pollution events higher than −45 ‰, primary actually leaks. The simulation–observation comparison suggests that total much estimate (0.04 Tg yr−1) but close to, slightly lower than, (0.10 yr−1). However, results indicate due leaks being both EDGAR.

متن کاملGreater focus needed on methane leakage from natural gas infrastructure.
Natural gas is seen by many as the future of American energy: a fuel that can provide energy independence and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the process. However, there has also been confusion about the climate implications of increased use of natural gas for electric power and transportation. We propose and illustrate the use of technology warming potentials as a robust and transparent way...
متن کاملMeasurements and Modeling of Flue Height Influence on Air Pollution Emissions and Thermal Efficiency of Natural Draught Gas Fired Boilers
This paper presents and analyses results from experimental and CFD work undertaken on a 24 kW domestic natural-draught gas fired boiler. The effect of chimney height on boiler flue gases is being considered to address the need for increasing concern over environmental safety as well as saving of energy. A multi-component analysis computer (DELTA 2000 CD) is used to analyze the flue gases. 3D nu...
متن کاملComparing Natural Gas Leakage Detection Technologies Using an Open-Source "Virtual Gas Field" Simulator.
We present a tool for modeling the performance of methane leak detection and repair programs that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of detection technologies and proposed mitigation policies. The tool uses a two-state Markov model to simulate the evolution of methane leakage from an artificial natural gas field. Leaks are created stochastically, drawing from the current understanding of...
متن کاملSolid Circulation Rate and Gas Leakage Measurements in an Interconnected Bubbling Fluidized Beds
Two-interconnected fluidized bed systems are widely used in various processes such as Fisher-Tropsch, hot gas desulfurization, CO2 capture-regeneration with dry sorbent, chemical-looping combustion, sorption enhanced steam methane reforming, chemical-looping hydrogen generation system, and so on. However, most of two-interconnected fluidized beds systems require riser and/or pneumatic transport...
